Girls Just Wanna Have Fun! And a little sneak peek at May… April 23, 2009

Isn’t that the truth?  Here’s the other mini album I made with my April kit from Urban-Anthology.com.  I have a weekend scrapbook retreat coming up in mid-May with good scrappy friends and a few new scrappy friends at a cabin in the North Georgia Mountains called Hilltop Shangri-La (it’s a great weekend getaway for scrappers).  Anyway, I created this little mini with pocket pages to hold photos from that weekend getaway.  I’ll add photos and journaling to the pocket inserts.

And are you ready for a little sneak peek of Urban Anthology’s May kit – an Enchanted Afternoon.  Yeah, I though so.

Another fabulous kit featuring papers from Webster’s Pages Magical Wishes, Basic Grey Porcelain, and Pink Paislee Enchanted collections.  I can’t wait to get it!

Another Project for Urban-Anthology.com April 21, 2009

I used some of the scraps from my Urban-Anthology.com April C’mon Get Happy kit to create this mini album about my fave music from the 1970’s.

I was definitely inspired to do this project once I found one of my vintage photo albums from 1971.  I removed the inside of the photo album and married the covers with the inside of an o-wire journal from Michael’s dollar spot.

Rock My World Mini

I love it and think I definitely achieved the look I was going for.

Album: Holiday Fair Inc., NYC, 1971
Inside Coil/Pages: Studio G (from a Michael’s $1 spot album and I repurposed the insides)
Cardstock: Bazzill
Pattern Paper: Sassafras Lass; Cosmo Cricket
Stickers: Sassafras Lass; Cosmo Cricket
Letter Stickers: Making Memories
Lollipop Flowers: Prima (I disassembled the flowers and used the pieces that had musical notes on them)
Other: Sequins; Contact Paper; Trim; Silk Flowers

Designer Notes:  I kept the design simple and very reminiscent of the type of collage albums I made in the 1970’s using images and letters from magazines, greeting cards, junk mail, and miscellaneous found objects, etc.  Also, I love the Cosmo Cricket discard strips from their pattern papers.  In this album I used several since they said, “But wait, there’s more.”  This is one of my favorite things about Cosmo Cricket papers.

Stay tuned…I actually have another mini album to post using this kit, but need to take photographs first.

April DT Reveal @ Urban-Anthology.com April 8, 2009

I so love this month’s Urban-Anthology.com kit – C’mon Get Happy!  This kit features papers from Sassafras Lass, Cosmo Cricket, and Making Memories and is full of great embellies.  It definitely took me back to the 1970’s…

No doubt about it, the first thing I thought about when I saw this kit was the 1970’s. My bedroom was decorated in my favorite color combo – lime green walls, lemon yellow painted furniture, citrus orange fun fur bedspread and graphic floral curtains pulling together all three colors. I couldn’t find a photo of my bedroom, but I did find a photo of my sister from 1974 wearing a dress I picked out in those colors and, yeah, the photo is complete w/ fun fur!

Supplies for Color Me Happy:
Pattern Paper: Sassafras Lass
Alphas: American Crafts Foam Thickers
Chipboard: Cosmo Cricket
Paper Flowers: Prima
Stickers: Making Memories (letters); Sassafras Lass
Flash Card: Sassafras Lass
Brad: Chatterbox
Acrylic Pebble: Prima
Pearls & Rhinestones: Kaiser Craft
Trim: Prima (green)
Other: Trim (orange)

Designer Notes:  Feel free to pull apart embellies like the Prima lollipop flowers and assemble in a different way.  The two blue layers of the flowers shown above are pieces from a Prima lollipop flower that I cut into to create petals and used to layer with other flowers and stickers.

This kit also made me think of some great products of the 1970’s.  My fave shampoo was Yucca-Dew, but I couldn’t find an image on the web – I also used the original Clairol Herbal Essences and Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific.  Yep, some great products and one of the products I remember the most is Bonne Bell Lip Smackers – you couldn’t own just one either!

Supplies for Lip Smackers:
Cardstock: Bazzill
Pattern Paper: Sassafras Lass; Cosmo Cricket
Alphas: American Crafts Foam Thickers; Cosmo Cricket (chipboard)
Paper Flowers: Prima
Letter Stickers: Making Memories
Blue Buttons/Round Gems: Chatterbox
Strawberries: Petaloo
Crepe Paper: Jenni Bowlin Studio
Border Sticker: Cosmo Cricket
Rhinestones: Prime (blue rectangle)
Other: Buttons; Silk Flower
Punches: Marvy Uchida

Designer Notes:  Do you recall a product or even a toy from your childhood that you want to scrap but are lacking a photo?  Source an image on the web – and document that memory.  I also created a punched scallop border at the top of this LO that extends beyond 12″ – I like seeing little bits and pieces extending out of my albums.

This next LO features my sister, Kimberly, and her first cat, Tabitha.  She received Tabitha for her 6th birthday in June 1977.  I was all set to journal something about that when Kimberly walked up to me, saw this LO and recited a little poem about Tabitha that she said she used to say about Tabitha all the time.  So I used that for my journaling!

Supplies for Friends:
Cardstock: Bazzill
Pattern Paper: Cosmo Cricket
Chipboard Alphas/Shapes: Cosmo Cricket
Journal Page: Making Memories
Lollipop Flowers: Prima combined w/ punched Cosmo Cricket papers
Brads: Prima
Rhinestones: Kaiser Craft
Trims: Prima (green); Making Memories (floral)
Punches: Marvy Uchida; Martha Stewart Crafts

Designer Notes:  Invite others to contribute to your journaling on a LO.  Also, you’ll see some more pieces of Prima lollipop flowers incorporated with punched pattern paper.  For the largest flower, I punched approximately 1″ scalloped circles and folded them in thirds around a pop dot on one end to create additional dimension.

Stay tuned…I’m working on a mini album now using a vintage photo album of mine from 1971.  The images on the cover of the photo album are perfect with the elements in this kit.
